"It should be condemned in the strongest possible terms by everyone involved in this issue, no matter what position they take on the RS 2477 issue itself."
--Commissioner Randy Johnson, Chair, Utah Association of Counties Public Lands Oversight Committee
EDITOR'S NOTE: In early July, 1997, ecoterrorists hacked and destroyed this site, the first reported incident of ecoterror in cyber-space. As far as having any real impact, there was none: the site was back up in a matter of hours. But this crime speaks volumes about the effectiveness of this site as well as the moral, philosophical and legal weakness of the environmental extremist's position on RS 2477-related issues. We take the fact that ecoterrorists felt they had to destroy it as the highest compliment they could have paid to the effectiveness of this web site.
We know from feedback received over the past 18 months it has been on the Internet that it has provided invaluable insight and resources to county officials, policy makers, media people and the general public on this issue. We also know that it has been educational and enlightening to many members of environmental extremist groups who, after perusing it, realized that they were being mislead and deceived by their own organization. It is this growing credibility gap within their own ranks which led the ecoterrorists to take the radical step of destroying it.
This crime also speaks volumes about the weakness of the environmental extremist groups' position on RS 2477 and related issues. As is so often the case, they cannot compete in a rational, fact-based and open debate of the facts and the legal issues involved. Their only hope is to resort to "book burning." They understand that they can only achieve their goals in a climate of ignorance, misinformation and deception.
Two primary documents related to this incident are posted on this site. One is a letter to the FBI asking it to investigate this federal crime. It gives some additional information on the incident. The second is a press notice issued by the Utah Association of Counties on this crime.
